Great progress was made on the acre today and it was enjoyable work as we could see the fruits of our labour taking shape. One of the vegetable strips is now contained within a temporary border ( thanks Isobel ) whilst Nick, Kate and Tanya worked hard to enlarge and square up the remaining ones. We've also decided that potato will be planted in our first strip.
A lot of hard graft went into the " Secluded Garden " with Nick and Brendan removing large amounts of carpet which had been put down to suppress the weeds. The carpet is being used to cover the vegetable patches, again to suppress the weeds and assist in drying out the soggy earth, making it easier to break down.
Nicky, Lou and Kelly soon had a roaring fire going and we all pitched in to clear scrub to feed it. The large pile of logs was moved with selected lengths kept for our insect stockades whilst the rest kept the fire burning strongly.
Whilst enjoying our well earned tea and cake we discussed having an open day. Spreading the word is important as we hope to be seen as a real asset for Farnham. As soon as dates are confirmed we can share them.
We've also entered space2grow in the Farnham in Bloom competition! Last year the Bishops Meadow won the accolade for best community project, lets see if we can have that rosette pinned to our gate this year!
