Congratulations are in order as this week Farnham won gold at the National ' In Bloom' competition and were also awarded the accolade as ' Best Town ' in the UK! The awards were held in London and members of the town council picked up their award from Floella Benjamin in her capacity as vice president of the RHS. As space2grow was part of the tour of the RHS judges tour in Farnham we like to think that our project played a small part in the towns success.
Our own mayor, the wonderful Pat, was visiting the acre on Wednesday with a couple of representatives from the Ahmadiyya Community based in Tilford. Our visitors were looking at the charities that our Mayor is supporting during her year in office and it was a pleasure to give them a tour.
The acre is now quite changed from how it looked in the summer. The Wednesday work party worked hard to remove much of the remaining wildflower scrub and the withering sunflowers. It's incredible to see just how much land we garden when you see it laid bare and naked without its flowery garments!
The Thursday Gardening Club are doing sterling work, transforming the area around the entrance to the garden and it too looks very different to the unkempt look it had a few months ago. Something very special is being created and will enhance the experience when entering the acre. As each week reveals a new part of their plan, its like a jigsaw revealing its picture bit by bit.
Lastly, we have been able to save some pieces of the wonderful cedar tree that sadly had to be felled in the library garden. Some wonderful table tops will hopefully be created and a large branch will form the basis of our alternative Christmas tree which will go on display in St. Andrews Church. Christmas is definitely coming
