More fun with Afternoons on the Acre!

We held some more of these sessions and yet again everyone has enjoyed their afternoon experience immensely! Lottie celebrated her second birthday here (a real honour for us) and Corin was treated to a slice of birthday cake which was wonderful. Also coming along were our friends from the Voluntary Association of South West Surrey who had a great BBQ and will no doubt be returning again.

Men in Sheds pizza progress!

We thought we'd share a photo of the progress on the pizza oven being created by Men in Sheds.  It's looking amazing so far and we can't wait to enjoy a slice of delicious homemade pizza!

This week on the acre

It's been quite a week on the acre, and not just from a weather point of view! From parched ground with scorched brown grasses, providing us with a continuous rota of watering, to a landscape of vivid green hues as our plants greedily suck up the rain to replenish their stems and leaves for one last hurrah before autumn robs them of their finery.  The rain has been welcome. Summer rain is an especially precious commodity and yet its timing often leaves us feeling in a low mood as it stops us from doing the outdoor things we like to do, but if you have on good waterproofs it can be a refreshing change to the cold and miserable winter downpours. With each raindrop containing 700 drizzle drops, and with each cloud containing up to 17.4 million gallons of water (weighing 64,000 tons!) this natural phenomenon which every living thing relies upon, should be greeted with joy - unless you happen to be on a well earned holiday or break!

We love trying out new experiences on the acre and this week some of us had our first taste of meditation accompanied with Shamanic drumming. A small group from space2grow joined forces with the drummers, brought together by Trevor, and what a fantastic and mind expanding evening we had! The repetitive note of the drum, which lasted for twenty minutes, sent me into a deep state of relaxation and when I came back into the real world it seemed the drumming had been going for just a minute or two. It was a wonderful experience and a big thank you to Trevor for arranging the evening and buying the sausages which we cooked over an open fire in the Secret Garden. We hope to hold the sessions regularly on a monthly basis and will look to gradually expand the group when conditions allow us to.

Over the last few months my sister, Melissa, has been asking me to contribute a piece to her nature podcast, "The Stubborn Light of Things", and last week I recorded a piece which is included here https://melissaharrison.co.uk/podcast/the-stubborn-light-of-things-20-hope. The episode was titled "Hope" and I "hope" you enjoy it and listen to the other ones in her series!
