seasonal change in the garden

new home education group

This week we welcomed a new group of home educated children and their parents to space2grow for the first of regular monthly sessions learning in the garden. After some time exploring the garden, Trevor, group leader of the Bodger's, read the children the story of the wooden horse of Troy to provide inspiration for clay modelling. The plan is to gradually introduce the children to more 'bodging' activities so that, in time, they can safely work with wood and tools. A parent commented: "My twins really enjoyed the clay and story session with Trevor. Please thank all those who made it possible. We felt enriched by the whole experience!"

cooking and talking

Wonderful aromas from cooking club this week with the Transform Housing & Support group making lamb filo pie from scratch. The new school term saw a new group of children and parents from Potters Gate school start their cooking journey with Coral's Cookery School, making new friends and sharing experiences.

community projects

Farnham Men In Sheds, our collaboration with Farnham Maltings have been busy working on a Farnham new storage cupboard for Farnham Food Bank. The men enjoyed going off-site and, with a challenging design, created a cupboard to store non-perishable food items and toiletries which are then packed into food parcels. Farnham Foodbank help anyone facing hunger because of crisis and are part of The Trussell Trust’s UK-wide network of foodbanks.
If you are a charity or voluntary organisation interested in working with Farnham Men in Sheds do get in touch about a future project.

rewards for hard work

Following our great news last week about our South & South East in Bloom success we've received our certificates so thought we'd share them with you as we're still feeling really proud and happy! They will be framed and on show in the gardener's shed soon.

in our garden

As Autumn arrives it's a time for change in the space2grow garden. Our wildflower meadow has been strimmed and mown to help spread the seeds so that next year's meadow will bloom beautifully.

It's been another week of harvesting veg from the garden with carrots and beans still doing well. Our pumpkin is doing really well and getting bigger every day.

Our lovely volunteers enjoying the garden. Trustee John popped in to share his knowledge of fruit tree pruning and we even had a visit from a friendly tortoise!

weekly wishlist

At space2grow we love to recycle and reuse and save money. Our various groups have created a wishlist of items that would make a real difference on the acre. If you can help by donating any of these items please email us

  • files and rasps suitable for use with wood

  • seeds and plants

reflections from the acre

Lillybelle came to space2grow as part of a support group organised by a social prescriber and now comes to gardening sessions regularly. Here are her reflections ........

“Being at space2grow allows me to be myself more. I feel that, in particular, during the last year or so not being able to go out properly I think I definitely lost myself and haven’t felt able to be myself. There’s not much you can do sat on the sofa. It allows me to have a reason to leave the house, which is what I need. I’m able to be here when I want and do what I want which is really good. I like the fact that the garden changes every time you’re here but it’s the same place so it’s familiar. There’s always something different to explore and look at and I really like that side of things. The people that come here, obviously I don’t know all their reasons for being here, but it’s nice that I sometimes see slight improvements in people. For example I’ll see someone smile for the first time after a couple of weeks and I think “oh great this place is helping them” or they sit down for a long time and then I see them doing something which I know is their next step forward and that also encourages me as well, without them even realising it. That’s what I like about space2grow and the fact that it’s beautiful too.”

If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyones reflections.

As always, we are working hard to ensure that space2grow remains a Covid safe site so please email info@space2grow.space prior to your visits, bring your own food and drink, take any rubbish home and please adhere to social distancing.

Thank you and see you soon!
