in the news
We were very happy to welcome children from St Andrew's Infant School reception class for a visit supporting their new school topic on gardens. It's always a joy to host school children on the acre.
in the garden
Another glorious week with space2grow bathed in sunshine. We wanted to share this amazing photo captured by Natasha and her family who spent a relaxing Sunday afternoon in the garden. A beautiful dragonfly drying its wings before its first flight.
Thanks to Kate for capturing this lovely photo of resident dog Tuppy snoozing in the sunshine. Tuppy can always be found outside the talking shed when cooking club is taking place - just in case they need help or there are any tasty morsels going spare!
new cooking course
Our latest cooking course for families, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, got off to a great start this week creating some tasty dishes, building confidence and creating space to chat.
doorstep duets
Last week we were delighted to host performances of A Doorstep Duet in the garden. Farnham Maltings worked in partnership with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures dance company brought the lively, characterful dances to various local organisations across Farnham. Farnham Men in Sheds, 40 Degreez, Creative Response, local families and our volunteer gardeners all got to experience these dance performances at space2grow which were so energetic and joyful. reflections from the acre
Malcolm is an elderly care home resident and, before Covid, visited space2grow every week with his daughter and son in law. Gardening was a passion he enjoyed with his wife who sadly passed away whereupon he moved into the home. He loves pottering in the greenhouses, sowing seeds and weeding. This week saw Malcolm return for the first time in a year and a half. Welcome back Malcolm!
His daughter Diane has remarked at just how much more alert and engaged he is on the days he comes to the garden.
"What a day to return to the garden - it looked spectacular! It was also lovely to see a smile on Dad’s face as he took in the sights, particularly the wildflower meadow, the new raised beds, even the compost heaps ….and especially the pond which was so full of life. For him, this was the first day back since the Christmas meal 2019 and hopefully marks the beginning of a return to normality."
If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyones reflections.
As always, we are working hard to ensure that space2grow remains a Covid safe site so please email info@space2grow.space prior to your visits, bring your own food and drink, take any rubbish home and please adhere to social distancing.
Thank you and see you soon!
