Ukrainian families find a space to learn

Ukrainian language lessons in the garden

Over the summer we have been hosting language lessons for local Ukranian families organised by some wonderful local volunteers and Farnham Town Council. As well as the regular lessons for adults we have also had the pleasure of welcoming children too. Tuppy, one of our resident dogs, was very happy to welcome the families to the garden, especially the children!

new timings for gardening groups

From Monday 5 September we're changing the days for our gardening groups which will now take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9am to 1pm. This allows us to have more time for local schools, home school groups and families to use the garden. If you volunteer with us please get in touch to let us know if you can make a Tuesday or Thursday morning.

in our garden

It's been a lovely summer in the garden. Our sunflowers have grown so much!

Lots of harvesting going on in the veg patches and we decided to share our excess fruit and veg with passers by. Lots of happy locals enjoying fresh produce from the garden.

reflections from the acre....

We're very happy to be able to provide a space for local Ukrainian families to learn English and this week, Olena shares her reflections.........

"I came to the UK with my son a few weeks ago. In Ukraine I am an English teacher. Learning English is very difficult. It’s very difficult because nobody understands you and you can’t speak to people. That’s why it is a great opportunity for the children to learn here outside. Speaking and listening is very hard as they speak slowly on the internet, not like people here, so it is really good to have these lessons in this nice space.
I’m from Kharkiv, near the border with the Russian Federation and we left on the first day of war and went to a village and we stayed there in the hope that everything would come to an end quickly. But my son has to start school and I want him to be in a safe environment to start school, so we came here. My husband stayed in Ukraine and my mother and my brother and his family. And the news is not very good from Ukraine. But we hope Ukraine will win."

If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyones reflections.

And one more thing.... to help keep our wild garden beautiful please make sure you take all your rubbish with you and, ideally, bring any food or drinks in recyclable containers.

Thank you and see you soon!
