Funding news for talking teens

farnham town council funds talking teens

Great news! We've secured a community grant of £2,000 from Farnham Town Council that will be used to offer parenting support to more local families. The money will fund Talking Teens programmes at space2grow over the summer, helping local parents and carers of older children to enjoy and make the most of family life.

The Family Links courses take place in the evenings in our talking shed.  Sessions are informal and look at developing parents’ understanding of the teenage brain development on behaviours as well as exploring the importance of communication.

Two terms of the five week Talking Teens programme will run from Thursday 27 April – Thursday 25 May and Thursday 15 June – Thursday 13 July, from 7.00pm – 9.00pm.
space2grow also runs Nurturing courses for parents of children of all ages. The next eight week Nurturing course starts on Monday 15 May from 7.00pm – 9.00pm.

beavers run for space2grow

A big thank you and well done to the 11th Farnham Beavers who have raised a whopping £368.50 for space2grow with a sponsored run. Here they are enjoying the garden during an evening visit earlier this year.

The money donated will help to pay for materials like bird feeders and seedballs in the garden, along with other things like wildflower felt seedbeds around the edge of the pond.  We look forward to welcoming the children back for another visit in the summer.
Group leader Janet Elliot said “it was lovely to see the Beavers enjoy the space2grow space, especially the den built from old bike wheels. They also really got into the sponsored event to raise money for space2grow and I am looking forward to going back again to see how the money has been spent.”

can you lend a hand?

With the garden bursting into new life, we're looking for new volunteers to help maintain our lovely wild space.
Why not come along to one of our weekly morning sessions and give it a go. It's a chance to get outside and be active in a beautiful setting. There's even time for a cup of tea and a catch up towards the end of the session.  With a range of gardening tasks to do, there's something to suit everyone.
If you're interested, then please get in touch via info@space2grow.space to find out more.
Thank you to local photographer Ed Brydon for giving permission to use his parenting photo in our new gardening flyer, which you may spot on noticeboards in and around Farnham very soon!

the circus comes to town

The Farnham Hedgehogs are organising a summer circus for local families - a fun afternoon of Big Top entertainment, with a BBQ, bar and ice cream plus traditional games run by volunteers.
The event, which is subsidised by The Hedgehogs to make it more affordable, is on Sunday 23 July, from 12 noon until 5.30pm at Farnham Heath End School
Tickets cost £10 per person (children under 2 years are free). Complimentary, or “pay what you can” tickets, are being donated to local families in need, as identified by The Hedgehogs. Refreshments will be sold to ticket-holders at cost.

The Farnham Hedgehogs is an independent charity whose mission is to support local people in need. If you are a Farnham resident in need of support during these challenging economic times, or if you’re looking to support your local community, either through volunteering, or by making a donation, the Hedgehogs would like to hear from you. You can reach them via their website.

in our garden

Over the last month our volunteers have braved the blustery weather to continue all the spring jobs that need doing ...

... like turning over the veg beds and planting out ...

... and seeding felt mats with wildflowers, to bring on in the new greenhouse then patch around the edge of the pond.

There's been pond-dipping over the Easter holidays ...

... and we can report that the tadpoles are thriving! We've even spotted a newt!

reflections from the acre ...

The reflections this week come from Mothers Space maternal support group, which meets in the talking shed at space2grow. Mothers Space has now been running for over a year and offers a monthly meeting of mothers looking for support with their mental and emotional health. It's a collaboration between Carlton Psychology's Dr Rebecca Ker and Anastasia of Wifedom Tales Blog, who lead gentle conversation and facilitate a space for mothers to focus on themselves.

"The peaceful setting of the talking shed in the garden at space2grow makes it a most gorgeous and relaxing venue to come, breathe, think, process and share, meet other mothers and feel supported."

"Thank you so much for creating such a safe and healing environment. I really benefitted from the words of those in the group and your insight. The last session in particular was very reassuring and helped me realise how hard I've been on myself. So much has changed since and both my son and I are happier for it."

If you would like to share what the acre means to you, please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyone's reflections.
