sending christmas cheer from space2grow!
The last few weeks have been very festive at space2grow, here are a few highlights!
Our group from Farnham Heath End School had fun sessions making stars and wreaths which quickly became head garlands! It was a great end to a super term.
support from Squires
As the chosen charity this year for Squires Badshot Lea, we received a very special invite to open their Santa's grotto! A family from our space2play sessions got to not only cut the ribbon but also be the first visitors for Father Christmas! Pure Magic.
We also hosted two charity tombolas at their evening shopping events in the run up to Christmas and we were kindly donated gloves, bulbs, bulbers & secateurs. Thank you to our friends at Squires!
our christmas communi-tree!
Men in Sheds created a brilliant christmas tree frame on which we could hang handmade decorations and enter the Hale Community Centre christmas tree competition. space2play made genius mini wreaths from cheerios, the gardening volunteers provided seasonal foliage and our group of teens from Farnham Heath End School decorated ornaments, with some very unique designs like a rainbow parrot!
mince pies & crackling fires
Our garden volunteers did not let the recent wet weather keep them from the garden over the past few weeks. Fruit trees have been pruned, compost beds organised and fresh woodchip along the paths. The last session was made all the more enjoyable with plates of mince pies and mulled juice warmed over little fires to keep everyone warm. A perfect seasonal end.
And lastly one of our youngest visitors showing us what you need to do when life delivers you mud...just roll in it! Our space2play sessions ran right til the end of term and the children came in all weathers and thoroughly enjoyed it all. Giving us all a lesson in how to embrace and enjoy all of nature - even the messy bits.
Huge thanks to our volunteers who make this little acre of wild garden such a magical place for the local community to enjoy.
We would also like to thank all our funders and supporters throughout the year, without whom all these activities wouldn't be possible. From organisations such as Bake, Natter & Roll, Local Beaver Groups and the Headley Horticultural Society to the Dempster Trust, Farnham Lions, the Farnham & Weyside RotaryClub and the Hedgehogs. All have continued to support us this year. A special thank you for Farnham Town Council for their support for the Talking Teens parenting courses and the Waverley Thriving Communities fund. We appreciate it all so much, as do all those who come and enjoy the space.
We wish all our readers a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. Please come and see what we're up to in 2024!
Thank you and see you soon!
