making strides

The trustees have decided that it is important to keep the gardens open during the outbreak unless we have instructions from the government to do otherwise. This policy is in line with the chief medical officers advice for everyone to keep active and to get outdoors as much as possible. It also mirrors the National Trust's announcement that all their gardens are open and free to enter. As long as visitors take distancing and hygiene precautions seriously then the acre can be visited safely but if you have a cold, are recovering from a cold or are concerned with symptoms that you believe are connected to coronavirus then please follow the official guidelines and act accordingly.

As you can see from the photographs the acre is undergoing a bit of a makeover - and what a difference!

The groundworks are nearing completion, taking just two days, and now we have the levels upon which to start the build of our decking. The Men in Sheds have been itching to get going on this project and now it's become a reality their enthusiasm has increased ten fold! Despite the current situation the lads turned up in force on Tuesday and have sited our circular tree bench, made another for a paying client, fixed the broken cabin chairs and made planters for our garden. The pond decking will be a doddle for this team......

We are in the fortunate position to have the means and ability to grow our own food and we need to get our seeds sown as soon as we can. All the vegetable beds have now been dug over and fed with compost. New glass has been bought for the greenhouses and seeds have been bought. New beds are being dug and the willows continue to be pollarded to ensure that they get enough sunshine. There is an awful lot of work to get done in a short space of time and if you can make it along to the acre - on any day - then your help would be very much appreciated.

Many of the fund raising events we either help with, or benefit from, have been cancelled and this will begin to impact us should the situation continue beyond early summer. If you can donate vegetable seeds or plants please get in contact with us at infospace2grow.space - your generosity would be very much appreciated! We will need to tighten our belts to get through this but we will. Furthermore we will emerge stronger and more tightly knit than ever before, of that we are certain, because that's what we do on the acre.

Bring your own mug or a thermos. No shared food. Clean your hands regularly. Remember to adhere with distancing of 2 metres. Follow the Public Health Guidelines as they are announced.

Most importantly enjoy the fresh air and the gardens.
