in the news
Check out this week's Farnham Herald feature on our recent grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.
cooking club
Our group from local charity Transform Housing & Support celebrated coming to the end of their cooking club course with a barbecue. Feedback from the group highlights the amazing benefits including;
having more confidence in cooking
having a reason to get up and have a purpose for the day
being more sociable and the easing of social anxiety
having the opportunity to chat about anything
being able to cook healthier food from scratch
shed life
Over the past month the men in sheds have put the final nails in the box for Hale’s community fridge and cupboard. Many of the guys have now returned to the acre and in the coming month will be helping the Museum of Farnham to re-build allotment fencing.
veg club
There were smiling faces all round from the school veg club after completing their quiz this week. Veg club is continuing throughout the summer months for families from nearby schools and local people who have been isolated during lockdown.
parenting classes
Both the talking teens and parenting puzzle courses came to an end this week, with really positive feedback from all of the local parents who took part. Courses for the first half of next term are almost full, with demand at an all time high after parents have been struggling with the impact of lockdown on family life. Thanks to our local funders, the Hedgehogs, Farnham Round Table and Farnham Town Council for helping to fund this invaluable resource.
coming up
One of our partner charities Transform Housing & Support are running ‘Sleep Out at Home’ on Saturday 10 July to help prevent homelessness. Spend one night sleeping outside in your garden, backyard, or flat balcony and help fundraise for the largest supported housing provider in Surrey; a local charity dedicated to the prevention of homelessness. They provide care and support to socially excluded and vulnerable people to enable them to go on and live independent and fulfilling lives.
Full details about the event and everything you need to know to take part can be found at Sleep Out at Home | Transform Housing & Support.
reflections from the acre
This week's reflections are from the members of the Transform cooking club.......
“Coral’s cooking club has helped me in so many different ways. Having a reason to get up in the morning has been so helpful. Coral is an amazing teacher and always has the entire class engaged in whatever we do. My confidence, both in the kitchen and in general, has improved ten fold. I will 100% be re-applying to every course Coral runs in the future. Fantastic experience!” Gemma
“The course has been informative and fun, I have gained more confidence to cook at home, would definitely attend again and would recommend to people looking to gain some experience and confidence in cooking.” Jon
