mini growers on the acre

mini growers

Our mini gardeners have been busy! Over the last few weeks of veg club they have planted seeds, including peas, broccoli, radishes and beetroot, nurtured them and planted out the seedlings. They learnt all about ’thinning out’ the seedlings, how far apart different vegetables need to be spaced and how to transplant them carefully, as well as how to protect them from the cold by covering them up. They really enjoyed using watering cans to water their seedlings, weeding and they even got to take cress home that they'd grown in the greenhouse.

working in partnership

This week saw a group of volunteers help out our charitable partner and neighbour https://www.bishopsmeadowtrust.com planting trees. A wonderful team effort!

40 degrees

Thanks to the teenagers from 40 Degreez who very kindly re-painted the loo after a frozen pipe and dramatic leak during the winter caused some damage.

reflections from the acre

Last week saw the current parenting and talking teens courses, supported by Farnham Round Table and Farnham Town Council respectively, come to an end and Kate, one of the course facilitators, wanted to share her experience and those of some of the parents who attended...

"These were parents who had been signed up to do the courses in January but we had to postpone them due to the lockdown. It was such a cathartic and valuable process to share the struggles that families have faced during the last year. All those involved in the groups were so honest and generous in sharing their experiences which allowed for rich courses which so many benefitted from. Here's some of the feedback they kindly were willing to share..."

“It is such a relief to meet with other parents in a safe space to discuss issues and ways of resolving situations.”
“I was quite nervous initially about feeling judged and that I had done things wrong. However, I should not have felt worried as it was the most perfect, respectful environment to learn & open up.”
“Lovely, friendly group. Kate & Kelley are the perfect programme co-ordinators. They made sure the sessions were fully inclusive.”
“Fantastic course, simple, not preaching.”
“It was great to take time out and get an insight to how a teenager works. I have such enormous fears of raising a teenager and attending this course has given me a better understanding and confidence.
