mayoral reflections

cob 'dancing'

An unusual activity took place this week with the gardeners and Farnham Men in Sheds, our collaboration with Farnham Maltings, joining forces, using a stomping technique to create cob, a building material for making walls using compacted clay, sand and straw. The pizza oven has been relocated from the pond area to next to the barbecue and is being rebuilt, using cob to cover and insulate the cooking area. Just like testing the consistency of meringue in cooking, apparently holding it above your head is a good test for the correct consistency!

in the garden

Despite the gloomy skies, rain and hail showers the gardeners kept themselves busy planting French beans, weeding and creating a structure to protect the young peas from the local pigeons.

can you help?

We're always very grateful to receive any unused or surplus items that we can make use of. In the past these have ranged from seeds and plants to large stones for the pond and even greenhouses. The bodgers are in need of a workmate bench so if you have one you could donate please do email us info@space2grow.space

reflections from the acre

unnamed-400.jpg

This week sees the end of Farnham Mayor Pat Evans tenure. We're so grateful for her wonderful support of space2grow during her time as Mayor and we're delighted Pat is sharing her reflections with us........

"Two years have elapsed since I chose space2grow and Hale Community Centre to be my charities as Mayor of Farnham. And what a wise choice that has proved to be. During that time – and it became a 2-year period as Town Mayor – the two charities became closer and formed Space2Breathe. space2grow has provided the space for people to find peace and support for their respective needs. A wonderful place of pleasure and happiness to cook and garden and make things and learn new skills and much more. Children have camped under canvas and experienced nature at first hand.
David and I have experienced immense pleasure when visiting the acre as the picture above shows. Farnham Men in Sheds have worked their magic and produced the pontoon around the wildlife pond which the Lord Lieutenant saw on his recent visit. Farnham’s Bloomin’ programme has benefitted from your support. My theme has been to Work with the Community for the Community and both space2grow and In Bloom have so visibly helped me in this aim. You are wonderful community supporters.
I am very proud of space2grow and everything it achieves. You yourselves have won awards for your horticultural prowess. Be proud of yourselves. You have brought much pleasure to me and I know to many other people.
My
reflections are of peace and serenity and the ability for people to find themselves, particularly in COVID Lockdown. And of pleasure and achievement. I might no longer be Town Mayor but I will continue to visit and support you. I know there will always be a friendly welcome and a cup of tea!
Very Best wishes
Pat Evans"
