in our garden
Have you seen our super Sunflower? It's really grown and is enjoying it's spot facing the morning sun over the Bishop's Meadow.
Our volunteers enjoying the garden this week. A satisfying day was spent sorting out the fruit bushes which were overcrowded and not bearing fruit. The existing bushes were carefully dug up and temporarily re-planted in the vegetable beds ready to go to a new home. We have a plan to put in new raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, gooseberries and blueberries. They'll be given plenty of space and hopefully next year we'll have a bumper fruit crop.

reflections from the acre
Cameron and his dad Malcolm are regulars at Friday gardening club. Malcolm shares his thoughts on space2grow...
"We’ve been coming to space2grow every Friday for the past six weeks. My son Cameron is autistic and has just finished an independent living and life skills course at Farnborough College of Technology. He was brought to space2grow by a tutor for work experience. When the work experience finished I arranged for us to come together. It’s been great and now we both really look forward to Friday.
During the pandemic he was unable to go out and about developing his life skills and basically spent 18 months at home. Having space2grow is a godsend and it makes a real difference to the week. I’m usually doing the bulk of the work when we’re at space2grow but it’s worth it to spend time with him. Cameron’s favourite work to do is weeding.
Being outdoors and doing something physical is really good for him. It’s also really good for me to have the opportunity to work alongside him as I normally drop him off for activities and I don’t get to see what he’s doing.
One other benefit is that he is getting over his phobia of dogs by spending time with the dogs at space2grow. He was very scared of dogs when he first came but he’s got very used to them now."
If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyones reflections.
As always, we are working hard to ensure that space2grow remains a Covid safe site so please email info@space2grow.space prior to your visits, bring your own food and drink, take any rubbish home and please adhere to social distancing.
Thank you and see you soon!
