book your bank holiday picnic

in our garden

Great to see our community of volunteers enjoying working in the garden and exploring the wildlife in the pond.

Lots of work by all of our gardening groups this week on our secret garden area behind the pond. Satisfying clearing to reclaim overgrown areas and open up new opportunities for use of the space in the future.

book your bank holiday picnic

There is no volunteer gardening group this Bank Holiday Monday, 30th August. However, space2grow is available to book at weekends or Bank Holidays for some relaxation and maybe a picnic or barbecue.  Just drop us an email to book.

blooming awards

The South & South East in Bloom awards ceremonies are taking place in September via Zoom. We're excited to see if we're successful in the 'Its your neighbourhood' category'! If you would like to watch the awards on Thursday 16 September from 2pm - 4pm please let us know by Monday at the latest. We will forward your email address to the organisers and you will be sent a link to join and cheer us on!

weekly wishlist

At space2grow we love to recycle and reuse and save money. Our various groups have created a wishlist of items that would make a real difference on the acre. If you can help by donating any of these items please email us:

  • a bench vice

  • large plastic tubs with lids for making organic fertiliser

  • files and rasps suitable for use with wood

  • water butts or suitable containers

  • workbench

  • seeds and plants

Please remember to take all your rubbish home with you. These plastic bottles and cans were found in various spots around the garden. If you can limit use of plastic when at the garden we, and the local wildlife, would really appreciate it.

reflections from the acre

Following the recent sad passing of Mervyn, a founding member of Farnham Men in Sheds, Ken, facilitator for the group, shares his reflections ……

"Mervyn and his wife Margaret have been close friends of ours for over 40 years. His two children Elizabeth and Mathew have remained friends with my two boys during this time. We all feel we have lost a very special person and it is difficult to find words at such a sad time.
We want to remember Merv’ as the joker - he always found ways to make us laugh and was always ready with a quick remark which many would think was offensive but with his cheeky smile he always got away with it.
When our children were young we would meet up almost every other weekend during the summer months and set off to The Witterings where we would set up our camp with BBQ and allow the kids to enjoy the day , these were very happy times and Merv’ always enjoyed them especially the stop off at the pub on the way home. We have enjoyed many social events over the years including skittle evenings, truck racing at Brands Hatch, car shows (Merv’ won First Prize in the Concours and Gymkhana with his MG Metro Turbo at one show and, much to his delight, went home with a large cup). We also had great fun times barn dancing at the local schools something Merv’ excelled at (not) but always ended with everyone laughing a lot . Not sure if it was from the dancing or the drinks but in any event it was fun.
Merv’ was always there ready to help everybody and even after being diagnosed with his cancer he remained cheerful and was keen to establish and help get Farnham Men in Sheds up and running. Unfortunately Covid-19 came along and stopped him from being involved, it is sad he will not see the shed he designed completed but he is most likely supervising from on high."

Thank you to the students at the University of the Creative Arts who created this video about Farnham Men in Sheds, our collaboration with Farnham Maltings.
In memory of Mervyn.

If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyones reflections.

As always, we are working hard to ensure that space2grow remains a Covid safe site so please email info@space2grow.space prior to your visits, bring your own food and drink, take any rubbish home and please adhere to social distancing.

Thank you and see you soon!
