supporting young carers
It was a great pleasure to hold our first young carers evening, a new initiative kindly supported by the Farnham Lions. This delightful group of young people spent a couple of hours on the acre chilling, chatting and laughing. The weather was stunning and they were able to play many run around games before sitting calmly pond dipping or talking while getting creative. They tucked into hotdogs and dessert cooked on the open fire and went home tired, but happy. Everyone asked if they would be able to come again and both parents and children thanked us for the opportunity.
"The best thing about tonight is that I made a new friend. We had never met before, but we had lots to talk about."
"I really loved it all, especially playing with everyone."
"Can we come again?"
"I liked the peace and quiet."
"Being here has made me very happy."
play through the ages!
From creating ladybirds, catching fish & newts, dreaming up fairy houses... as well as thinking up novel ways to get rid of unwanted bugs - play for all ages is one of the joys of the acre! (do not worry no insects were actually consumed - only biscuits & cake!)
new wheels for Farnham Town Council
Freshly repaired waggon wheels for the floral display that sits outside the council offices were delivered by the Men in Sheds team after they were damaged. The team managed to re-assemble all the parts and get them fitted to the barrow. They have also been working on art storage racks for the museum and made a delightful bench for the space2play group. Continuously helping so many local groups and organisations.
space to grow... fruit & veg!
Things are moving at a pace in the garden as we try to keep up with nature. The garden team has been able to complete the work on the fruit cage and install the beds into the greenhouse...
reflections from the acre...
We have come to the end of two Talking Teens courses that have been running this spring and we are so proud to be able to offer these courses in Farnham. A huge thank you to Farnham Town Council for supporting the Talking Teens courses this year and we wanted to share some of the lovely feedback from parents.
Over the course of the programme, parents look at lots of different topics, including an understanding of teenage development and the influence of brain development on behaviour. Also awareness around the importance of listening and increased awareness of verbal and non-verbal communication.
We know that the benefit of these courses can be felt within families for years, improving relationships and helping to create a less stressful home life.
"It haČ™ been really helpful to know that I am not on my own in the challenges of parenting a teen. The group have been lovely, and both Kate and Kelley have led the course with great sensitivity and humour"
"Very engaging course..really informative. No right or wrong answers, just methods & techniques based on the understanding of the development of the teenage human body & brain"
" We spend so much time in our lives thinking, learning or being trained in our work life. We all need to stop and think, learn and be present with our children"
