a BIG LUNCH!
On Friday 7th June we hosted our 2nd BIG LUNCH. On the success of last years event supported by the Eden Communities we wanted to celebrate all things space2grow - the volunteers, the user groups, the funders, the supporters and of course, the garden!
It was glorious - we were lucky to get sunshine and guests brought along dishes to share which were amazing.
The Lunch coincided with the end of national volunteers week which was very fitting!
Children from both Potters Gate School and St Andrews School welcomed the Farnham Mayor, Councillor Brodie Mauluka, reporting that is was the "best day ever!".
Both schools use the acre regularly as a space for outdoor learning, with the reception class at St Andrews using it each Monday afternoon.
Councillor Brodie spoke clearly about what he wanted to do in office and gave them really good advice about working hard at school saying 'no-one can ever take your education away from you'
In the spirit of community guests were invited to bring a dish of their choice to create a buffet lunch for us all to share & enjoy together. It was a really beautiful array of dishes with some delicious home bakes. Some in particular were works of art such as the beautiful salad from Hive Helpers created from vegetables from Farnham Community Farm and completed with their own hive honey salad dressing. Everyone was so generous and the dishes all complimented each other - we could not have planned it better.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Group were asked whether they could provide their amazing samosas as they were commented on so much last year and they did not last long - it was lovely to have them join us. It was great to have members of the Squires Badshot Lea garden centre team come along - they have been so supportive with us being their charity of the year. We were also delighted to welcome Deputy Lieutenant Jim Babbington, O.B.E., who was kindly representing the Surrey Lieutenancy office.
One of the guests drew this lovely picture of the lunch in action and then added colour. Huge thank you to Michael for capturing the day in such a charming way.
Thank you to the Thursday volunteers who did an amazing job the day before and to the Farnham Hedgehogs and their efficient team with their help in setting up the marquees. Thank you also to the Farnham Herald who covered the lunch in a piece which sum up the day so well. Click HERE to read.
