Another feast on the acre as Aniello was on top form as he prepared two curries over two sittings, one for the morning crew and the other for those arriving later. They were both excellent, especially as he predominantly used produce from the acre.
With the heatwave continuing it was quite steamy work today but we got a lot done. The excess liner around the pond has been cut away making it look a lot neater and soon we'll be able to bury the remaining 'fringe' and plant around the edges.
A first for us on the acre today and it felt like a day we'd all been looking forward to. Our first lunch cooked at the acre with fresh vegetables straight from the beds.
What a fun afternoon on the acre! We hosted an informal open day where we welcomed many of our regular volunteers, attendees of our parenting groups and the primary school children who have been having forest school lessons on the acre.
The acre sells itself at the moment with the wildflower varieties in flower changing weekly, the fruit beginning to weigh down the boughs, vegetables bursting with flavour whilst the formal beds are maturing with bursts of colour.
It was wonderful to harvest some of our vegetables, under Isobel's watchful eye, and to see volunteer's able to take some of it home to add to their supper.
A day when we got to show our project in it's best light! We were visited by judges from Farnham in Bloom as we have entered the Madge Green Community Garden Project category.
It was all about team effort on the acre today. We had a big task ahead, after our successful bid at the innovation conference last month we were finally able to fund the pond liner, we now just needed to lay it!
What a magical day on the acre! Day by day our vista changes as our plants grow and new colours are added to the palette creating a riotous assault on our senses.
The weather was glorious and highlighted the beautiful colours of the wildflowers within the meadow. Corncockle, poppy, oxide daisy and clover, amongst many others, swayed gently in the long wild grasses with mayflies, honeybees and butterflies making themselves busy, darting and flitting about the place.
One of today's tasks was to make all our beds, vegetable and flower, look a bit more presentable as weeds had started to spread.
Lots of elements coming together at the space. The flower beds have all been planted, just in need of some edging and nearly all the vegetable plots are filled.
What a wonderful day on the acre! Wednesday's are firmly our favourite day of the week; we always look forward to the camaraderie, the teamwork and the freedom and today was an exceptionally great experience.
A very busy Wednesday. We had a several people visiting the acre today. We are entering Farnham in Bloom
A fantastic day for clearing some of the site and beginning to see the space at the back of the acre for the potential serenity garden.
There was plenty of industrious activity going on which was aided by having a dry day
At last, a glorious Spring day and on the official first day of Spring. Less than 48 hours ago the acre had been carpeted in a couple of inches of snow, but today it was spread before us with lots of growing wildflower and budding plants and trees.
Spring came to visit on our 'Volunteer Wednesday' and gave us a fleeting, tantalisingly brief experience of days that will soon be upon us
Today was one of those Wednesdays when the acre was visibly transformed as we had the digger on site.
Great progress was made on the acre today and it was enjoyable work as we could see the fruits of our labour taking shape.
What a contrast to last weeks Volunteering day...today was grey, wet and windy. We continued to make progress clearing the site in the 'secluded area' and it shows so much promise.
What a fantastic day on the acre; fresh air, scrub clearing, sun shine and a terrific fire!
The area we tackled today has opened up a larger than envisaged spot which is beautifully secluded. We have been thinking of how best to make use of it and how to compliment the acre.
It was great to be back on the acre today, after the foul weather has prevented us being able to progress much in the garden there was much enthusiasm, despite the claggy mud!
Enjoyable and educational day on the acre with lots of good work. A local gardening expert (trained at Wisley) gave a fantastic pruning class in the orchard, showing us the best length to cut at, teaching us about water shoots and how to create shape.
A great days effort on the coldest Wednesday of the year so far. So much was achieved and the significant progress on the vegetable patch means that we can look forward with confidence.
Today saw the start on the vegetable area, with Rupert and Isobel leading the way in preparing the ground.
We had another great day on the acre for our volunteer Wednesday, lots going on and it was great to see either projects coming towards conclusion or new projects taking form.
Another great Wednesday, we achieved a lot and there was a palpable community feeling on our acre which is what the project is all about.
We had a busy morning setting out and clearing patches for the bulbs to be planted. A lot of bulbs...
