"Afternoons on the Acre" - memories made We’ve put together a highlight of the “Afternoons on the Acre” that ran during the summer. It was a wonderful way in which we were able to open up the garden to local families and friends. To read more about the afternoons click HERE

Each week our fantastic volunteers gather to put in a terrific stint and this week saw them weeding around our fruit bushes and the border in front. They've also started to bulb here with Aliums, tulips and daffodils so it will look a picture come spring!
musings from the acre
It looks as if we might get a passing glance of summer before it fades away, a little reminder that we can store in our memory bank until it can be replaced with fresh ones next year. It is the summer equinox this month, where light and darkness are equal for a day, and after that we start to enter autumn - a busy and important time for nature. Squirrels are making themselves even more busy as they start burying their winter supplies and Canada geese are flying south in tight formations to new lands. Our preparations are under way too as we contemplate the old and consider the new. Spring bulbs are being planted whilst last year's growth is being cleared and composted leaving beds clear for fresh growth.
Autumn is a time of change and that brings me round to marking my own time at the acre as it too draws to a close as I've decided to make a move to Devon, a place I hold dear in my heart. I'll be around until the end of November to oversee the work needed to put the garden to bed and I hope that you'll join me in the work parties in the coming weeks. Bring cake!
A new programme of activities is being planned and the current regular gardening sessions will continue as normal with familiar faces at the helm as well as some extra sessions. More information on this to follow soon!
Also... If you are a regular visitor you will notice a BIG change as we've finally brought some order to our sheds! Thanks to everyone who helped sort out the tools, bag up and sort the rubbish and feed the fire. It looks so much more organised and tidy so let's keep it that way!
Finally a big thank you to the "Men in sheds" team for making a gate for our neighbours after theirs was vandalised. Next week they'll start laying the decking around our pond - we're almost there!
