Outstanding!

For the second year in a row space2grow has been awarded the "Outstanding" mark by South and South East in Bloom in the Community Garden Section. This is a remarkable achievement for which we are rightly proud given we are just three years old! If we maintain this level for another year we'll be awarded a "Distinction” something to aim for next year!

Men in Sheds - Everyone needs good neighbours....

When we found our gate had been vandalised a few weeks ago we soon found out we had got off lightly as our neighbours gate had been totally kicked in and needed replacing. It was obviously a job for "Men in Sheds" and soon they had presented their plans to our neighbours, agreed a price and were building the custom sized gate. This week the gate was hung and our delighted neighbours have got back their security. Another fantastic, high quality job for which they can be justifiably proud. Great stuff!

This week has seen the team make great strides to get the acre in shape before winter is upon us. The path leading to the acre was given a tremendous clear. The beds are being weeded and spring bulbs planted to ensure there is plenty of colour next year. The area around the pond has also received attention with the clearing of growth and the soil under preparation for turf to be laid. Hopefully the pond area, with decking and a pizza oven, will be finished before all the leaves are on the ground!

musings from the acre

The importance of bio-diversity to a healthy environment in which we thrive alongside other natural things was highlighted in " Extinction" with David Attenborough on the BBC. It was a harrowing, frightening and anguishing watch but left the viewer with hope that all is not lost. I made a conscious decision to make changes in my life to help reduce the negative impact that some of my choices have had on the environment and lots of little decisions soon add up to make a positive change. The acre has the potential to be an exemplar for bio diversity and is already a haven for many species, as we have been able to prove with our moth counts, and with our pond which is teeming with life. In the mornings the acre hosts a wonderful feathered choir whilst all manner of rodents can be seen scurrying about the place. Foxes, bat's and even deer visit us and I hope that they know how warmly we welcome them and how much we would miss them if they ever left. It's time to lend our ear to Mother Nature.

More to look out for!

(As organised outdoor exercise,  group walks are exempt from the rule of 6 - read more here) His hike is going to be relatively challenging as he takes us to Caesars Camp whilst talking about "Aldershot - the Garrison Town". If you would like to join the walk please register your interest at info@space2grow.space
