bonfire fun in the garden

bonfire fun in the garden

Our bonfire night gathering was a great success and a wonderful community effort. Our garden volunteers worked hard building a fantastic fire and making a guy with clothing donated by the Downing Street charity shop. Waitrose very kindly donated hot dogs and hot chocolate and volunteers brought some delicious homemade sweet treats.

We had a great turnout of young and old. The fire burned brightly, the guy met his fiery end, marshmallows were toasted, sparklers sparkled and we even got to enjoy some distant fireworks. Thank you to everyone who came and made it a great night!

thank you Waitrose!

As well as donating plants and food for our events, Waitrose have very kindly supported us with a £300 donation. Thank you to everyone at Farnham Waitrose - we really appreciate the support!

in our garden

Meanwhile there's always work to do in the garden! We recently experienced a flood which damaged our lovely pond. Plans are being drawn up to replace the pond liner and get our pond back to being a wildlife haven by spring. Our wonderful volunteers have braved the mud to rescue the plants and will be involved in the work to revive the pond over the winter.

We have some great expertise in our gardeners - working wonders in the garden and always ready to share their knowledge too.

Recycling in action! Making seed pots from newspaper and planting lettuce seeds was a great rainy day activity.

reflections from the acre

Tim has been coming to space2grow since early 2021 and shares his reflections.............

"I first heard about space2grow when I visited Farnham Men in Sheds. When I looked around I saw what a beautiful space it was and realised I was more interested in the gardening side.
It’s become a place of safety for me. There is such a diverse range of people in the community who you get to know as you work alongside them in the garden. I really enjoy meeting new people and chatting and getting to know the different personalities. There’s such a wide variety of people that do come and I really enjoy that.
Feeling like I can be useful, as someone who suffers from mental health problems, is a real benefit to me. I’ve been doing some ‘bodging’ which I enjoy as it’s great discovering other people’s skill sets and talents and learning from them. When someone else shares their skill and becomes the teacher they feel good about themselves.
I think you have to be very mindful of people’s moods when they come to space2grow. Some days you don’t really want to do too much so being able to come and sit, drink tea and chat is just as important as getting stuck in and doing stuff. At other times I need to come and get on with physical work which helps me. It’s really good to be able to do what you need at a particular time and it’s great to be able contribute towards making the place more beautiful."

If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyones reflections.
