spring has sprung!
This week the acre began to burst with pops of colour as it got bathed in some of the early Spring sunshine! It was lovely to get a taste of things to come. As the weather begins to improve and the days get longer you may want to visit to enjoy the space. Please email info@space2grow.space so we can manage this safely and send our COVID guidelines. We would love to have you come along.
Project 'pond' progressed well as Natalie and her team continued to work on defining the edges of the pond. It was a great collective team effort with the Bodgers helping to cut edging to size. We still have lots to plan for the pond so if you are interested in helping with this, have any rocks you can donate for the edging or want to share any ideas please let us know.
tree pollarding
Tuesday saw some improvements to the perimeter of the acre, at the back of the secret garden, where some trees were cut back. This will allow more light onto the acre - much needed sunshine for the fruit and flower beds. Also more light into the Bodger corner which also saw some great progress this week with their shelter beginning to take shape.
shed
The Men in Sheds team (run in partnership with Farnham Maltings) now have a roof on their shed, and the structure is beginning to blend in with the rest of the acre. A big thank you to Jon who has done a wonderful paint job and thereby convinced the guys to paint the rest of the shed a lovely shade of forest green!
reflections from the acre
In this week's reflections volunteer Libby who heads up the Thursday gardening group kindly had this to share;
"space2Grow is a very special space. It is a real-life secret garden beyond a wooden door in a brick wall just like the story. And magic happens here too. This little acre is the setting and inspiration for a whole host of wonderful ‘nature-based’ activities for all ages and abilities where laughter, play, fun and creativity sit alongside hard physical gardening work, learning all sorts of new skills and quiet times for relaxation and reflection. We plant, we tend, we build - all while making new friends out in the fresh air with wild flowers, fruits and vegetables alongside birds, butterflies, moths and lots of creepy crawlies! We grow ourselves and we grow each other just as much as we grow the plants and crops that surround us. For me, Space2Grow is all about taking time out in beautiful natural surroundings caring and sharing together. Thank you everyone involved - you make this my happy place!!"
If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyones reflections.
As always, we are working hard to ensure that space2grow remains a Covid safe site so please email info@space2grow.space prior to your visits, bring your own food and drink, take any rubbish home and please adhere to social distancing.
Finally a plea for help! We recently got donated some large garden tools which was fantastic - one thing we are a little short of is smaller hand tools (small forks, trowels etc) if you have any spare or know or someone who wants to donate please email info@space2grow.space and we can arrange collection or organise a safe time for you to drop them off to the project.
Thank you and see you soon!
