let's get cooking!
Lovely to be at last back on the acre for ‘Cooking Club’.
After three months the families from Potters Gate School were so looking forward to getting together, cooking and sharing their experiences of lockdown. Some had been anxious about returning to school, finding it difficult to get back into a ‘learning’ routine, and leaving the safety of their homes and family.
Our Transform Housing & Support group had been waiting to start and felt relieved to have some normality in their week again with our regular cooking slot. Delightful to hear how cooking had been continuing during lockdown, especially now cooking from scratch, producing healthy meals and trying out new recipes.
garden magic
More great work on the pond with the edging complete and planting beginning. Willow weaving and re-locating snowdrops kept the volunteers busy and we took delivery of the first raised beds from the Imagine project - targeting youth unemployment by providing sustainable jobs in the horticulture sector.
The pollarded willows provided a perfect treehouse camp for children taking part in one of our space2breathe sessions, a joint initiative with other local organisations to give Farnham families a bit of respite from lockdown.
reflections from the acre
In this week's reflections volunteer Grace shares her reflections;
"space2grow is always a happy retreat and sanctuary where I can feel released and relaxed from study stress. Each time spent on the acre transforms my mood and mentality on the given day, described by a friend of mine as feeling ‘therapized’ after snowdrop separating. We were both given a demonstration on the process of uprooting the snowdrop bulb, halving, and replanting each half in both the original flower bed and across new areas of the acre to emerge and flower next January.
Throughout winter I had admired the snow drops beautifully dispersed across the near-by St Andrews Church garden and am hopeful that come the new year ours may bear the same effect after lying dormant for the summery months - only the future will tell! Therefore, for me the snowdrops are an apt symbol of the entire atmosphere of emergence, growth, and development felt across the acre. Each day spent at Space2grow anticipates growth and a hope in the future excitement to witness how each contribution, no matter how small, will come to shape the landscape and space.
To be amongst new and old friends, nature, plants and getting muddy carefree is the perfect therapy that always welcomes laughter and has resulted in many cherished memories."
