This week saw the second week of the parenting courses at space2grow. Strategies based around how praise can be really powerful were covered and it was lovely to hear about the positive impact these tools were already having on day-to-day moments.
Run with limited numbers to allow for social distancing, these courses offer so much support. Allowing time and space for families to share their struggles was especially valued after the last lockdown which was so hard for many. Trying a few different approaches can have a real impact on life at home and lots of those attending commented on how every parent should have the opportunity to do this course.
We'd like to say a big thank you to The Hedgehogs and Farnham Round Table for their funding of our parenting classes and cooking club.
in the garden
Planting in the pond has begun with plants 'borrowed' from the Old Vicarage pond by our intrepid wader-clad volunteers. A lovely moment captured of a pair of ducks enjoying the pond makes all the hardwork worthwhile! Mother and daughter teamwork placing rocks which were kindly donated to landscape the pond.
Elsewhere in the garden more spring colour and life is appearing every day so it's a great time to come visit if you're able.
This week saw the first of Isobel's veg club for children from Potters Gate School. More to come on this in next week's blog.
reflections from the acre
In this week's reflections volunteer Trevor shares her reflections;
"I first discovered space2grow in early June last year with a view of using it as a place to do some chainsaw carving unaware of the community objectives of the project. It did not take long to appreciate the hard work and dedication of all those involved in the various projects.
At that point I asked myself what could I do to contribute to add value to such a vital community resource and determined that the bodging experience I had acquired as a volunteer at the Rural Life Living Museum could be used to establish a rural and traditional crafts session. Bodging involves working with green wood, bone and leather using traditional tools which makes it accessible for a range of different abilities.
It was at that point the Covid pandemic which foiled a lot of plans I hoped to get going, however with the able assistance of both John Negus (trustee) and volunteer John Hamner we were able to pollard the willows along the front path which has provided plenty of green wood for stakes post. We now have a bodgers/craft area which we are constructing with a cover to allow us to work in all weathers.
space2grow has proven to be an invaluable sanctuary from the madness of the pandemic and has afforded me the privilege of meeting many wonderful and diverse people."
If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyones reflections.
Like so many things in life all of the activities we provide for the local community cost money. If you are able to make a donation, however big or small please click this link to donate. https://www.space2grow.space/donate-1
As always, we are working hard to ensure that space2grow remains a Covid safe site so please email info@space2grow.space prior to your visits, bring your own food and drink, take any rubbish home and please adhere to social distancing.
Thank you and see you soon!
