Sunshine, blue skies and waders

funding success

We're delighted to share the news that we've received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. This will help towards funding all the wonderful activities we offer at space2grow.

A big thank you also to our local funders who's support has helped us get this far, including Farnham Town Council, Farnham Institute, Farnham Round Table, Farnham Rotary Club, The Dempster Trust, Farnham Hedgehogs, Surrey Community Foundation, Downing Street Charity Shop, Rotary Clubs of Farnham and Weyside, Rowan Bentall Charitable Trust.

space2breathe

Smiles and bridge building fun during one of our space2breathe sessions this week. The acre working it's magic giving mum a break while her son is entertained by a volunteer.

in the garden

The waders were put to good use in the sunshine this week with more pond planting. There is just over a month to go until the Mayor's visit to officially launch the decking which was funded by the Mayor and built by men in sheds. It's wonderful to see everyone coming together to transform our little pond into a beautiful wildlife oasis.

There's plenty of earth moving going on to level the area around the pond ready to be seeded with beautiful wildflowers next week.
If you know anybody who is stuck indoors, possibly isolated and alone, who would like to come down to the garden to enjoy some socially distanced company please do email us.

Being at space2grow isn't all about hard work! There's usually a friendly dog waiting to be made a fuss of and maybe even a ride in the tractor trailer!

The pollarding of the willows has now been completed and new whips planted on our borders. The work was necessary, in line with our public liability insurance, as the cracked willows were in danger of falling on the adjacent path, neighbouring properties or on passer-by's heads! The acre will also benefit from sunlight for longer on balmy summer days.

coming up

  • Farnham Town Council are donating wildflower seeds for the pond edging so please do email us and come along on Thursday 1st April if you'd like to help us sow the seeds.

  • The Acre will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday but if you'd like to book in a session soon please email info@space2grow.space

  • A group called Hive Helpers will be visiting to see if it's possible to have bee hives on the acre - we'll update you as any plans progress.

  • The Imagine project will be installing our new beautiful raised beds so that our Wednesday gardeners can get planting before the Easter weekend.

reflections from the acre

unnamed-308.jpg

In this week's reflections, Liz who brings her son to space2breathe sessions at the acre tells us what a difference it makes to them.

"My son, Todd, absolutely loves coming to space2breathe. He is full of energy and loves being outdoors. He has really enjoyed being able to spend time with Louis and be able to run free and climb trees. Todd says it means having fun, having opportunities to be in the wild and make stuff and go on the trampoline. He really enjoys it and it makes him really happy. For me it is valuable time for myself. Thank you so much for this opportunity."

If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyones reflections.

Like so many things in life all of the activities we provide for the local community cost money. If you are able to make a donation, however big or small please click this link to donate. https://www.space2grow.space/donate-1

As always, we are working hard to ensure that space2grow remains a Covid safe site so please email info@space2grow.space prior to your visits, bring your own food and drink, take any rubbish home and please adhere to social distancing.

Thank you and see you soon!
