garden magic

in our garden

In-between the rain showers we've had some very productive days in the garden, weeding, harvesting veg and even tidying up the salvage yard area. The garden doing it's magical job of giving people space and relaxation.

bodgers progress

It's been busy in the Bodger's area this week. The shave horse has been put to good use pointing stakes. These will be used in a joint project with The Bishop's Meadow, reinforcing the bank of the River Wey to help limit erosion. Work is also underway setting up a secure base for a new lathe.

join the men in sheds

With their purpose built shed nearing completion now is a perfect time to join the new Thursday morning session of Farnham Men in Sheds, our collaboration with Farnham Maltings. If you enjoy, or would like to learn about making, mending and woodworking then email Erin at Farnham Maltings to find out more.

weekly wishlist

At space2grow we love to recycle and reuse and save money. Our various groups have created a wishlist of items that would make a real difference on the acre. If you can help by donating any of these items please email us:

  • files and rasps suitable for use with wood

  • water butts or suitable containers

  • workbench

  • seeds and plants

reflections from the acre

Jon is one of regular volunteers who is always ready to lend a hand and have a chat. Here are his reflections.......

"I’ve been coming to space2grow for about three years now. To me, the acre has really grown and changed in many ways, with so much more going on in the garden. It’s been difficult during COVID, not being able to have so many people but its now getting back to how it was before. It's great to be able to mix with different people and have a chat.
My favourite part of the day at space2grow is arriving in the morning, watering and making sure things are ready for the groups coming in each day. It gives me time to sit down quietly and get my head together which is really important to me.
I help Coral with the cooking clubs and love seeing people’s confidence growing and seeing them enjoying cooking. The children can be unsure when they first come to do cooking but within a couple of classes they change and really enjoy it, chatting away to each other, really engaged with the group.
space2grow means so much to me. I get so much out of it in terms of my own mental health. When you come through the gate you forget about everything and it’s such a nice feeling. Seeing the seasons changing is something I have come to really enjoy and I never really noticed it before. Now I look forward to the changes each season brings to the garden, particularly summer when everything blooms. In the mornings everything seems alive. I always used to see a fox who was a regular visitor but he hasn’t visited in a while. Now I notice the birds more. They’re very friendly early in the morning.
It’s hard to explain what you get from your time at space2grow. For me, as I’m around in the garden a lot, it’s seeing the people who come progressing and changing. When they first arrive they can take some time to see the magic but after a few visits you can tell the garden is really making a difference for them. That’s what is so special about space2grow."

This is a brilliant film courtesy of the students at the University of the Creative Arts in Farnham. They created some short films for the project as a part of their course assignments. Huge thanks to the students involved and to Jon for participating.
