Waverley Borough Council funding news!
We are so excited to let you know that we have been awarded just over £19,000 from Waverley Borough Council's Thriving Communities Commissioning fund. The Thriving Communities Commissioning Fund provides funding to not for profit organisations to deliver specific services or activities that support people living in Waverley who have higher needs, who are more vulnerable or who are disadvantaged. The funding will be used to support and expand our available gardening groups to give more people the opportunity to reap the benefits of joining our community, working in the garden and supporting their mental health and wellbeing.
children's cooking fun
Supporting families is an important part of what we do at space2grow. Our regular cooking clubs run by Coral's Cookery School provide the space for local primary school children to learn about cooking, socialise and enjoy the garden. This week saw the latest course, funded by The Hedgehogs, come to an end.
The children made delicious pizza's from scratch which were cooked in our pizza oven and decorated cupcakes. They were given wooden chopping boards to take home, made by Farnham Men in Sheds, our collaboration with Farnham Maltings, decorated wooden medals and even enjoyed an Easter egg hunt in the garden!
Easter opening hours
To enable everyone to enjoy a relaxing break over Easter the garden will be closed on Good Friday, 15 April and Easter Monday 18 April.
in our garden
Mother nature has given our gardeners an array of weather conditions recently from warm sunshine to chilly grey skies, rain and even light snow! This hasn't deterred our wonderful volunteers who have been digging the veg beds ready for planting, cutting down willow, chopping logs to store ready for use in our pizza oven and working on our flower beds.
reflections from the acre
This week we thought we'd share some feedback from parent's of children who took part in a cooking course ran by Coral's Cookery School in our talking shed.......
"Cooking club has been a wonderful experience. The children have been given time and space to explore cooking, socialising and being creative. Coral is so patient and friendly, and the children have really enjoyed learning with her. Overall it has been a really lovely course."
"Coral offers an exceptional service to all young people. Always happy, interactive and keeps the children engaged. My daughter really enjoyed her time. Coral was very patient with everyone. My daughter can't wait to come back."
